A Trip Not In Vain

My mother-in-law is ninety-one and very independent. For some time, she has requested for us to come visit and be with her. We have visited many times thru the years since 2000 when they first moved back to the USA from the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. But this time her request expressed a different demeanor, she wanted our presence to be fixed here with her. She desired our company. Someone she could rely on and trust. Someone like her daughter, my wife. We came in July 2019 with no other specific plan  than to be with her. Then in February 2020 the Corona virus struck. And we are glad we came when we did; to be with her.
It is 5:30 am, April 30, 2020, and light is barely coming thru the sky. The back yard is in shadows. I can tell the outline of the shrubs, bushes and at the end of the property there is a tree line serving as a buffer between house groupings, this is part of the landscape of my mothers-in-law residence. I am sitting in an armchair looking out our bedroom window. I had raised the window to get some of the morning fresh air because the house temperature is at 85 degrees F. She has become sensitive to the cold.
With the window raised I could hear the rustle of the gentile breeze flowing thru the tree branches and the bushes. Then I heard the call of the northern red cardinal both male and female. Right outside my window is the fan for the central air system. And as I was listening and observing, something flew in all of a sudden, and there it was perched on the grill of A/C system in all its red glory, the Cardinal. Beautifully created by all mighty himself. It began to sing. Then he was gone in a twinkle. No sooner he had left she showed up at the very spot where he had perched himself. She was different. She had a crest like he did but not bright red, it was more like brownish orange with some red feathers mixed within her wings and she also sang.
I felt like a child again. Mesmerized by the song of these beautiful birds with their bright color plumage. How fragile they looked and yet capable of such singing and flight like a flash of light. After a while they were gone, like saying, the show is over.
God has a wonderful way of providing a distraction from the Pandemic and letting us know He cares. Our time with my mother-in-law has not been in vain. Her need is being met.

Update: Patricia Louise Conrad went home to be with the Lord on October 30, 2020.

Northern Cardinal
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Do you know Jesus as your Redeemer?
