THE SPIRIT OF POWER, LOVE, AND A SOUND MIND

Image
The last few weeks I have been meditating on a verse, which was brought to my attention during a Sunday School class.   2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."   This verse is not new to me. I have heard many people quote this verse to me on various occasions. On each one of those the emphasis was on what God has not given to us, a spirit of fear. I did a word study of that word "fear" and discovered that the word used in the Greek, when translated to English should have been the word “cowardice”. The true focus or intent of the author, Apostle Paul, was on that which God did give us “a Spirit of Power, and of Love, and of a sound mind". The tragic event of last Wednesday September 10 th of 2025, the assassination of Charlie James Kirk; the enemy of our souls intended for us to focus on the horrific impact caused by a bullet. Yes, that moment has shocked us and it might bring us to our kne...

FORGIVEN

Forgiven Not far from New York, in a cemetery lone, Close guarding its grave, stands a simple headstone, And all the inscription is one word alone— Forgiven. No sculptor’s fine art hath embellish’d its form, But constantly there, through the calm and the storm, It beareth this word from a poor fallen worm— Forgiven. It shows not the date of the silent one’s birth, Reveals not his frailties, nor lies of his worth, But speaks out the tale from his few feet of earth— Forgiven. The death is unmention’d, the name is untold, Beneath lies the body, corrupted and cold, Above rests his spirit, at home in the fold— Forgiven. And when from the heavens the Lord shall descend, This stranger shall rise and a glorious end, Well-known and befriended to sing without end— Forgiven. Author unknown Romans 4:5-8  But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto who...

COVID-19

Repost from Feb. 2020 PSALM 91 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear y...

In Search of ...

A certain gentleman was approaching retirement from the work that he loved doing for more than twenty-seven years. He was pondering what would occupy his time during retirement. There were hobbies, sports, and all kinds of recreational things on his list. One day he heard a story about one of his ancestors which left him intrigued of how such a story was left untold. The story was about one of his paternal great grandfather. Soon after hearing the story there was a meeting with relatives and he pursued the story and asked if anyone else had heard about it. And to his surprise there were some who had heard. So, he requested if there was any other information about that great grandfather. And there was but not enough to satisfy his curiosity. He felt challenged to research for information about this great grandfather. And started a genealogical search.            ...

A Trip Not In Vain

My mother-in-law is  ninety-one and very independent. For some time, she has requested for us to come visit and be with her. We have visited many times thru the years since 2000 when they first moved back to the USA from the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. But this time her request expressed a different demeanor, she wanted our presence to be fixed here with her. She desired our company. Someone she could rely on and trust. Someone like her daughter, my wife. We came in July 2019 with no other specific plan  than to be with her. Then in February 2020 the Corona virus struck. And we are glad we came when we did; to be with her.  It is 5:30 am, April 30, 2020, and light is barely coming thru the sky. The back yard is in shadows. I can tell the outline of the shrubs, bushes and at the end of the property there is a tree line serving as a buffer between house groupings, this is part ...
