THE SPIRIT OF POWER, LOVE, AND A SOUND MIND
The last few weeks I have been meditating on a verse, which
was brought to my attention during a Sunday School class.
2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of
fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
This verse is not new to me. I have heard many people quote
this verse to me on various occasions. On each one of those the emphasis was on
what God has not given to us, a spirit of fear.
I did a word study of that word "fear" and discovered that the
word used in the Greek, when translated to English should have been the word “cowardice”.
The true focus or intent of the author, Apostle Paul, was on that which God did
give us “a Spirit of Power, and of Love, and of a sound mind".
The tragic event of last Wednesday September 10th
of 2025, the assassination of Charlie James Kirk; the enemy of our souls intended
for us to focus on the horrific impact caused by a bullet. Yes, that moment has
shocked us and it might bring us to our knees. What we need to do while on our knees is to
look up to our Redeemer Jesus and remember that He has given us a Spirit of
Power because He arose from the dead and is Alive; of Love because He took our
place on the cross and paid for All of our sins; and of a sound mind because He
has transformed us by the renewing of our minds through His Word, the Bible.
Believers in Christ stand up firm and be counted. Be a good witness like the Apostles. Some of us
will do so in the Political arena, some in the business arena, others in our schools, and in our communities; and if our lives are sacrificed because of our service to our Lord
and King, Jesus Christ, like Charlie’s, we know it will not have been in vain.
For this world is not our home. Jesus has told us in His Word that He has prepared
a place for us in His Father House.
I heard that Charlie once said, “All that death can do to
the believer is deliver him to Jesus.” And I say Amen!
What say you?!
